Thomas, I don't care about unset either, but setting PYTHONHOME=

doesn't work -- it actually prevents the extensions from being built
properly.  So I'm changing the "sharedmods" target to what I presume
it was before:
	PYTHONPATH= ./$(PYTHON) $(srcdir)/setup.py build
